Trading goods and exchanging stories

The Idea Behind It

Singing Horse Trading Post is located on the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation on BIA Highway 33, 17 Miles North of the Wounded Knee Memorial Site and 7 Miles north of Manderson. For over 20 Years the Singing Horse Trading Post has been a vital business on the Reservation, serving the local community in a variety of ways.

The Original Singing Horse Trading Post started as a trading post in 1995 in Cuny Table, S.D, also located on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The term "Trading Post" originally comes from the western settlement era. Trails between trading posts were known as trade routes. Usually goods were traded on a barter system, with no need for money. Trading posts were also places for people to meet and exchange the news of the world or simply the news from their home country in a time when communication was difficult.

The Singing Horse Today

The Singing Horse Trading Post

We moved to our current location in 1999, and built a two story trading post and bed & breakfast. We expanded to tipi sales, camping, tours and horse back riding. Much of our business still consists of trading with locals, jewelry and supplies for artwork. Many friends, local customers and tourists enjoy our atmosphere and exchanging stories and news over a cup of coffee.
