Porcupine Quilled Earrings - Plum Triangles
Porcupine Quilled Earrings - Plum Triangles
Beautifully dyed porcupine quills intricately wrapped on rawhide, finished with nickel plated earring hooks. The corner of each triangle is embellished with a glass gem and jump ring.
The triangle is just over three-quarters of an inch wide and about 2 inches tall.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
