Porcupine Quill Earrings - Black Butterflies with Charm
Beautifully dyed porcupine quills wrapped on rawhide cut in the shape of butterflies, finished with plated earring hooks.
The butterflies are just over 1.25 inches tall and 2 inches wide, the charm adds about half an inch to the height of the earring. (Does not include the measurements of the hooks)
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
