Beautifully dyed porcupine quills wrapped on one half of the rawhide, the other half is painted with acrylic paints. The pair is finished with nickel plated earring hooks.
The earrings are just over 1.75 inches wide and 2.25 inches tall.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
