These stacked heart earrings are made of dyed porcupine quills wrapped on rawhide, finished with plated earring hooks.
Pink hearts are 1.5 inches tall and just under 1.5 inches wide
Black hearts are just over .75 of an inch and just under an inch wide.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
