Two Tiered Porcupine Quill Earrings - White and Turquoise
Two Tiered Porcupine Quill Earrings - White and Turquoise
These earrings are made with dyed porcupine quills wrapped around tapered strips of rawhide. The slabs are each just over 1.75 inches tall and about half an inch at their widest. The earrings are decorated with a glass droplet charm. Total length of earring is 4 inches in length. (Measurements do not include the hook)
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
