This beautifully crafted bolo tie is made with an eagle in flight carved out of cow bone. This piece is about 4 inches across and just under 3.5 inches tall. The carving is glued onto a bolo clip. The leather is decorated with two pieces of bone tips, carved into eagle heads. Bolo rope, including tips is about 38 inches in length.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
