Porcupine Quill Earrings - Turquoise Flower and Stem
Beautifully dyed porcupine quills wrapped on rawhide, finished with a small chain connected to ball end earring hooks.
The flower is just over 1 inch wide and 1.5 inch tall. The stem is just over 2.25 inches tall and just over half an inch wide. Total length of earrings and hooks is just over 5 inches long, including the gem bead and chain.
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
