Quill Wrapped Medallion - Blue
Quill Wrapped Medallion - Blue
This unique medallion is intricately designed with quills in the wrap method around rawhide rings, tacked onto its base with sinew. The medallion is centered with feathers made of parfleche attached with size 11 beads, the edging is beaded with size 11 seed beads and backed with leather. The necklace is made with black hair pipe and brass beads, tied with leather lace.
The medallion is just under 4.5 inches in diameter
Quillwork is one of the many traditional art forms of the Lakota people. There is a lot of time and work that goes into quillwork. The quills are removed from a porcupine, then are cleaned, dyed, soaked until pliable and woven or sewn into designs unique to every family or tribe. Quillwork is not water resilient and should be well taken care of.
